The Republican nominee for the State Supreme Court, 3rd Judicial District is a right wing partisan extremist that should not be on the bench.
Republican Supreme Court candidate Tom Marcelle is a decades-long member of the Federalist Society, the ultra-conservative network that gave Donald Trump a list of approved judges that included Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett.
Now, this same crowd is trying to elect a right-wing extremist here in our part of New York State.
Tom Marcelle was handpicked by Donald Trump for the federal bench—but Sen. Kristen Gillibrand was able to block the nomination when Marcelle’s extremist record against abortion rights was revealed.
Marcelle was the top lawyer at the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF)—designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which called it “one of the most influential groups informing the Trump Administration’s attack on LGBTQ rights.”
Tom Marcelle worked for a group whose agenda includes recriminalization of sexual acts between consenting LGBTQ adults in the U.S. and criminalization abroad; state-sanctioned sterilization of trans people abroad; and claims that a “homosexual agenda” will destroy Christianity and society.
Make no mistake. Tom Marcelle is anti-choice and lacks the judicial temperament we need on the Supreme Court.
The MAGA crowd loves Tom Marcelle. But New York State cannot afford another right-wing extremist.
